I chose July 7th as my quit date in 2002, mostly because it was convenient, and partly because 7 is my favorite number. Whatever the reason, on July 7, 2002, I became free from my addiction to tobacco. Okay really it was July 8th because I chain-smoked up until midnight, but July 7th was my last day as a smoker. I wanted to take a moment and offer a toast — to every person who has contemplated breaking free from a bad habit, recognized it would be hard, and still managed to commit to making that change possible. Cheers to us!
